Here’s an interesting case study produced by ReelSEO.com : Press Release With Video Gets 55.4% More Views Than One Without. Video News Releases, also known as VNR’s, are generating more hits online than traditional text-releases.

Case Study:
The company Get City Dealz produced three similar press releases from local merchants in the New Orleans area who advertise on the Get City Dealz platform – all of which were sent at 6:30 AM on a successive Saturday mornings.
The first press release titled Jazzy Nola – a local French Quarter boutique – included a video with the title text “ “Get City Deals & Jazzy Nola Team Up to Bring New Orleans Great Deals!”.

The second release was sent on behalf of Orleans Grapevine, a local restaurant, and it included a one photo of the Cajun Creole’s restaurant menu items and a list of specials.

The third release was sent from Glam 504, a local botique shop in New Orleans. This time, the release did not include any multi media assets (no info graphs, photos, or videos).

All three press release shared a similar target audience: 1 million tourists and 5K media members who’s interests include covering the New Orleans area, the Super Bowl, and Mardi Gras.

Here are the results:
Video News Release (VNR) had 55.4% more release views and 36.1% more link clicks.
• Release with a photo had 4.6% more release views and 7.1% more link clicks, than the release with no multimedia
• The release with a video, Jazzy Noel, promoted a voodoo doll, which was sold out in a matter of days
• The three releases received a combined 11k views and 580 link clicks to Get City Dealz landing page
• 72% of the site visits from the releases were new, compared to the average of 42%
• GetCityDealz saw a jump of 85% increase in referral traffic during the month of press release distribution
• GetCityDealz.com also saw a 407% increase in organic search traffic
